Pokemon X & Y: All The News You May Have Missed

Pokemon X & Y: All The News You May Have Missed - NowGamer

E3 is always a busy time of year for the videogames industry, and this year was no exception. As a result even the most diehard of Pokemon X and Y fans could have missed something in the noise of E3 2013.

As such we’re gathered together all the news that has happened over the last week or two surrounding Pokemon X and Y, both from Nintendo and E3 itself as well as from various other sources.

Pokemon X and Y details

Here’s everything you might have missed on Pokemon X and Y from the last couple of weeks.

New Pokemon Type – Fairy

It was rumoured for months, but Nintendo confirmed it at the start of its E3 2013 Nintendo Direct stream: Pokemon X and Y will include a new Fairy-type intended to act as a balance for the already existing (and powerful) Dragon-type.

Currently the only confirmed Fairy-type Pokemon in Pokemon X and Y are Jigglypuff, Marill, Gardevoir, Flabébé and Slyveon. We’ve detailed the new Pokemon below.

We’ve already seen a number of new Pokemon announced for X & Y, and not just the three starters.

Australia's new age rating system bans Saints Row IV

Australia's new age rating system bans Saints Row IV | GamesIndustry International

Saints Row IV has been banned from sale by the Government Classification Board, with suggested sexual violence cited as a major factor.

According to a statement from the board, "Saints Row IV, includes interactive, visual depictions of implied sexual violence which are not justified by context. In addition, the game includes elements of illicit or proscribed drug use related to incentives or rewards. Such depictions are prohibited by the computer games guidelines."

The new system has been in place for six months, finally allowing an adult rating for games, but Saints Row IV is the first game to receive a RC (Refused Classification) rating. Saints Row: The Third was granted a MA 15+ rating in 2011.

Microsoft reveals Xbox One headsets aren’t included with base system

Microsoft reveals Xbox One headsets aren’t included with base system | Ars Technica

Amid the fallout from an explosive E3 earlier this month, Microsoft quietly revealed some of the official accessories that will be released alongside the Xbox One in November. On this list was a one-ear mono headset that seems relatively unremarkable except for one well-hidden fact: it apparently will not be included in the box with the Xbox One.

The Official Xbox Magazine confirmed the lack of a packaged headset with Xbox Support, which tweeted that the system "does not come with a headset." That’s in contrast to the current $299, 250GB Xbox 360 model, which includes a basic headset in the box (the lower-priced 4GB model does not include a headset). It’s also another difference between the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, the latter of which will include a basic mono earbud and microphone with each system.

Xbox One users without a headset will still be able to chat with friends using the included Kinect and its multidirectional microphone. Microsoft has taken great pains to show off that device filtering out TV noise and picking up even quiet voice commands from around the room. However, it remains to be seen just how well this setup can replace a standard headset for multiplayer chat.

Nintendo's Turn For a 180? 'Let's Play' Drama Might Have Happy Ending

A month ago, Nintendo played the unfeeling corporate villain in an online spat about popular Let’s Play videos and the gamers who make them. A month later, there is evidence of a possible resolution.

The most positive sign is that Zack Scott, the popular YouTuber who first raised the alarm about Nintendo cracking down on fan-captured videos of new Nintendo games, is back to posting videos about Nintendo games on his ZackScottGames channel.

In the past couple of weeks, he’s posted Let’s Play videos of Animal Crossing New Leaf and New Super Luigi U. This is after Scott vowed a little over a month ago to cease posting videos of Nintendo games until Nintendo resolved the dispute.

"I took the leap of faith," Scott told Kotaku over e-mail last night, explaining his resumption of making Nintendo videos. His leap came from surprisingly firm ground. He’s seen evidence that Nintendo may be backing off its mid-May policy.

Cthulhu Saves the World developer to move away from parody in their next game

Cthulhu Saves the World developer to move away from parody in their next game | PCGamesN

"We got our start with parodying and doing homages to various video games, especially with our first couple of RPGs," studio head Robert Boyd told USGamer. "We love parodies, but since we’ve been doing them for so long, we thought we’d try something with a little more depth for our next game; it will still have humor and warmth, but we’re aiming for more of a Lunar or Prydain Chronicles feel rather than a full-blown parody."

Boyd didn’t reveal any details of the game beyond said that “it’s set in a distant future sci-fi setting” and “it stars a female protagonist who happens to be a spy”. Like their other work, the game will be in the style of Japanese RPGs though it will break fromd tradition and only feature adult characters.

Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward Free for North American PS+ Members

If you’re a PlayStation Plus member, and you’ve yet to pick up Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward, you’re in luck! Chunsoft’s visual novel adventure game is now free for those who have a PlayStation Plus membership in North America. It was already announced earlier this year that the game would be available free of charge to those in Europe and Australia.

Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward, available on PS Vita and 3DS, is the spiritual sequel to 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors. It tells the story of nine individuals who are mysteriously kidnapped and forced to participate in the “Nonary Game: Ambidex Addition.” This involves forming teams to go through “chromatic doors”, where those who enter must solve a series of puzzles in order to escape. The other piece of the Nonary Game involves what is essentially a real-life version of the prisoner’s dilemma, where players much choose whether to “betray” or “ally” with each other.

Meet The Colorful Cast Of Final Fantasy XV

After several long years of waiting, JRPG fans are finally getting some solid details on Final Fantasy Versus XIII XV. Square Enix has just released a bunch of bios, which flesh out the game’s core cast of characters. Give them each a look below.

Noctis Lucis Caelum: A childhood affliction endowed Noctis, heir apparent to the throne of Lucis, with the mystical power to see a heavenly light, through which he could sense others’ deaths. Noctis rejects rigid royal conventions and acts as somewhat of a renegade, much to the dismay of those who tend to him. Yet while “Noct” may act brash at times, he does so in defense of those loyal to him.

Baldur's Gate 3 Could Still Happen, But Beamdog 'Demoralised' - NowGamer

As excited as we would be to play a brand new Baldur’s Gate, hopes of there being a Baldur’s Gate 3 – however farfetched that dream is – lie in the determination of Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition developer Beamdog.

Beamdog has recently become embroiled in legal issues that has caused the remake of Baldur’s Gate to be pulled from the stores, both on iPad and PC.

If you have already bought it you’ll still be able to access and download Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition, but it is currently unavailable to purchase.

The resulting legal issues has hit Beamdog quite hard, however.

Dragon Quest X Heading to PC in Japan

Dragon Quest X is the rather odd duck of the Dragon Quest franchise, being the only MMO in a long line of single player RPG titles. Now, once exclusive to the Nintendo Wii and Wii U, Square Enix looks to want to reach a larger audience as Dragon Quest X is now being ported to the PC.

On a special ten hour Dragon Quest X livestream, Square Enix revealed  that the once Nintendo exclusive will be making its way to the PC on September 26 in Japan. The livestream also confirmed that the base game will go for a cost of 3990 Yen (roughly $40 USD), and a deluxe version that will go for 9800 Yen (roughly $100 USD).  The deluxe version will come with a Dragon Quest X PC game controller, a monster encyclopedia book, a microfiber map of the world, a security token, and some additional in-game content along with the game.

Code Of Princess Producer Wants To Develop Sequel For PS4 Or Xbox One

Code of Princess was Agatsuma Entertainment’s first attempt at making a game designed for core gamers. They pulled together a strong team – the creators of Guardian Heroes and former Capcom artist Kinu Nishimura to design the game’s world. The gamble paid off for Agatsuma Entertainment. "In Japan, it sold so-so, but in the US Code of Princess sold beyond our expectations," producer Yasuo Nakajima said to Siliconera.

I asked Nakajima if he was planning on making Code of Princess 2. "Kinu-san already has ideas about Code of Princess 2 in mind already," Nakajima replied. "If Code of Princess 2 goes into development maybe it will be for consoles like PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. I want to develop it a sequel to Code of Princess for core gamers like fans that are anticipating Dragon’s Crown now."

Phil Fish backs away from Xbox for Fez 2

Phil Fish has ruled out the possibility of releasing Fez 2 on Xbox One, despite it being a sequel to one of Xbox Live’s most admired indie exclusives.

When asked by Polygon about possible platforms for Fez 2, Fish unequivocally stated, "not Xbox." The outspoken Canadian designer went on to state a strong preference for the PlayStation 4.

"PS4 seems to be doing everything right," Fish said. "It’s too early to tell how everything is going to unfold, but their heart definitely seems to be in the right place. Which is a weird thing to say when talking about giant monolithic corporation, but there’s a handful of people working at Sony today who are really trying to do some good.

Miyamoto rules out new F-Zero as he's all out of ideas

We all thought the same thing when we saw the zero-gravity stuff in Mario Kart 8 – where’s the new F-Zero game from Nintendo?

The answer – there isn’t one. And there may not be one for a very long time.

"I certainly understand that people want a new F-Zero game," Nintendo design boss Shigeru Miyamoto told IGN. "I think where I struggle is that I don’t really have a good idea for what’s new that we could bring to F-Zero that would really turn it into a great game again.

“Certainly I can see how people looking at Mario Kart 8 could see, through the anti-gravity, a connection to F-Zero. But I don’t know, at this point, what direction we could go in with a new F-Zero.

Nintendo Still Considering Majora's Mask Remake

Nintendo Still Considering Majora's Mask Remake

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is my favorite game of all time, and believe it or not, Majora’s Mask isn’t far behind on the list. So as far as I’m concerned, the only game Nintendo needs to bring to the 3DS is a remake of the dark and twisted title that hit the Nintendo 64 back in 2000.

Despite the fact that the Big N has moved forward with a sequel to A Link to the Past instead of a Majora’s Mask remake, Shigeru Miyamoto still has not ruled out the possibility of bringing both to the handheld. When asked by IGN if Majora’s Mask fans "were out of luck," the Mario mastermind  responded with a chuckle, "Well, they’re still in my memory."

Assassin’s Creed 4 Game Director shows you the realm of the scallywag in new video

In an extended version of a commentary-less trailer we’ve already clapped eyes on, Ismail explains how this mission is based on a real pirate adventure where Blackbeard was chased by the British navy. We see Edward Kenway skulking through some lush looking jungle environments, stalking his prey. We’re assured that this time enemies are more deadly, part of an effort to make stealth a more necessary tool in the Assassin’s skillset. You may be a grog-swilling rapscallion in this game, but you’ve still got to remember the assassin rule book every now and again.

Nintendo's Big DLC Expansion, New Super Luigi U Out Today, What's Different?

Throughout the Year of Luigi, Nintendo has celebrated the other brother with his own games, but New Super Luigi U breaks new ground for the company as extensive downloadable content. Nintendo’s latest trailer breaks down Luigi’s slightly altered handling.

While 3DS titles like Fire Emblem: Awakening and New Super Mario Bros. 2 have gotten extensive DLC packs on the company’s handheld device, this is the first major home console expansion (that I can think of… If I’m totally wrong, just let me know in the comments and I’ll edit your intelligence into this post).

Super Smash Bros: The Difference Between Wii U & 3DS Versions

Super Smash Bros: The Difference Between Wii U & 3DS Versions - NowGamer

"From an artistic standpoint, when we’re looking at these high detail environments that we’re creating, we now have to go in and work on all of those little things, because as you can see, if you don’t put in the attention to detail they look flat and lifeless."

That’s not all, however, the Wii U version will enable "increased fidelity and detail" while still pulling the camera out and keeping it looking as good.

This means Sakurai and his team has "the ability to create things on a bigger scale".

As a result of developing for two platforms, however, Sakurai suggested there are limitations, including the dream of levels from Super Smash Bros Brawl (from the Wii) appearing in the latest Super Smash Bros game.

Microsoft "prepared to lower price" on Xbox One next year

While we all weigh in on Microsoft’s huge policy reversal on Xbox One, analysts have started sending out their investor notes. Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter is now much more optimistic for the Xbox One’s chances this holiday season against Sony’s PS4, but he also doesn’t rule out a price cut on Xbox One next year if Sony gets out to a sizable lead with its $399 price tag.

"…the focus will shift from Microsoft’s onerous policies to the price differential between the Xbox One (at $499) and the PS4 (at $399). The differential is due to the inclusion of Kinect (a high definition camera with a microphone array) with every Xbox One; Microsoft intends to offer a more robust hardware bundle than Sony will offer, and Microsoft is convinced that consumers will ultimately appreciate the value proposition presented by Kinect… Microsoft has not done a particularly good job of communicating the value proposition to consumers, but today’s announcement will remove an impediment to the company’s ability to get its message across," he noted.

Heartbroken Xbox One employee lets rip.

“Another feature that we didn’t speak out about was the fact we were building a natural social network with Xbox One in itself that didn’t require gamers to open their laptops/tablets to post to their other friends nor did they need to wrestle with keyboard add-ons. Each Xbox Live account would have a full “home space” in which they could post their highest scores, show off their best Game DVR moments, what they’ve watched via Xbox TV and leave messages for others to read and respond to. Kinect 2.0 and Xbox One work together and has robust voice to text capabilities. The entire notion of communicating with friends you met online would have been natural and seamless. No reliance on Facebook, or Twitter (though those are optional for those who want them). Everything is perfectly crafted for the Xbox One controller and Kinect 2.0 and given that shine that only Microsoft can provide.”

Kingdom Hearts III Gameplay And Story Details Revealed

Kingdom Hearts III Gameplay And Story Details Revealed

According to director Tetsuya Nomura, the game will take place after the events of the 3DS spin-off Dream Drop Distance, and will wrap up the "Dark Seeker" saga. The Disney-inspired worlds that Sora and co. will inevitably visit have yet to be ironed out, so stay tuned for additional info on that front in the coming months.

Nomura then went on to discuss the game’s combat, telling Famitsu:

We have a demo version running on the actual hardware, but the action’s pretty frantic. The really bold action we’ve always had is getting even crazier. Kingdom Hearts 3 has three-person parties, but NPCs and other characters join the fight in each individual world, and the resulting action is really flashy and exciting.

The enemy AI is a lot more intricate, too, and I think the gameplay will reflect that new dynamic balance. For example, there’s a foe that’s shaped like a vehicle, and Sora may jump on it and fly around; that’s already implemented.

Nomura Explains Versus XIII Name Change, Jump To Next-Gen Hardware

Nomura Explains Versus XIII Name Change, Jump To Next-Gen Hardware

Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced over seven years ago at Sony’s E3 press conference in 2006, and since then a lot has changed. To keep up with the ever-changing industry, Square Enix decided to rename the game Final Fantasy XV and bring Tetsuya Nomura’s chronically-delayed RPG to next-gen hardware.

In an interview with Famitsu, Nomura explained the reason behind this major change.

Around one or two years after we announced FF Versus 13, it was suggested to us to shift to FF15 as part of the company’s direction. By that time, a fair amount of time had already passed since the announcement and Versus was a well-known title, so it wasn’t a given that this would be 15; it could have still been Versus.

Personally, I came to accept the idea once FF Agito 13′s name was changed to Final Fantasy Type-0. As for the timing of the announcement, given that we were changing platforms as well, [the timing] wasn’t something we could decide on our own discretion. We worked together with assorted other divisions to get it announced at this E3.

Given there’s over 600 Pokemon, it isn’t feasible to include everyone single one in Super Smash Bros, for obvious reasons.

Naturally, Kotaku followed up by asking him which game that might be. Through a translator, he sort of double-backed on his prior answer, saying: "I wouldn’t say that I’ve ever made a bad game, per se, but a game I think we could have done more with was Zelda II: The Adventure of Link."

While Double Helix’s upcoming fighter Killer Instinct will be a free-to-play game for the Xbox One with a rather small cast of characters, the developer is confident in the title, and believes it will deliver a tight and compelling experience.

"Most fighting games that come out are disc based games where you get a huge cast of awesome characters, but it is a massive cast. Some games have anywhere between 30, 40, even 50 characters. And in reality, most players don’t play that many characters,"  Microsoft producer Torin Rettig told Polygon.

"We’re currently working on a PC version for release on Steam. Fortunately it’s been in development alongside the Xbox 360 version since Day 1, so we just need to integrate with the Steam platform and add native support for keyboard and mouse control. "Every generation has its own games and trends. So people who know games and know its history as well, I still get people coming up saying “Mega Man, Mega Man, make another Mega Man, I want another Mega Man”, you know?

"So it seems there are still people who are looking for something else. There’s still an audience for games like this, an older style of arcade game where it’s mindless fun cutting up a bunch of enemies. Maybe it’s not the biggest genre right now but there are still people who enjoy that. For us, we want to make something that’s different, something that will stand out in that aspect. We’re not following trends, so maybe that gives us a chance to stand out. "

Microsoft has already announced the ‘family sharing’ feature of Xbox One that allows you to share your games with up to 10 members of that group, but it wasn’t clear if they had to be in your family or not – and if they were, how would Microsoft check?

This gave rise to lots of talk about Kinect checking who you’d be sharing your games with and so forth but Spencer has clarified the policy.

3D Realms file lawsuit against Gearbox over allegedly unpaid Duke Nukem Forever royalties

In a breach of contract suit filed in Texas on Friday, 3D Realms claim that Gearbox have failed to hand over all the cash stipulated in the purchase agreement the two companies signed in 2010, when Gearbox bought the rights to Duke Nukem Forever. What’s more, 3D Realms say Gearbox have blocked an independent audit of the royalties they’ve earned on the game – something the 2010 purchase agreement should prevent them from doing.“3D Realms has therefore been required to file this lawsuit to enforce the purchase agreement, to recover the amounts due and owing from Gearbox and to enforce the audit right provided by the agreement to enable it to conduct an audit of Gearboxs royalties,” the complaint reads.

Blog by Neshoba78 | My New Day at the "Animal Crossing New Leaf" Nintendo World Event

I wake up at 10pm, tonight. Fog covers the car windows. Apart from a slight alarm light blinking, I had no indication of whether the battery ran down or not. I unlock the door, and thankfully turn on my interior lights. The funny thing about sleeping in your car is that you still have the moment of, "OK, where the Hell did I put my keys?" After a quick fumble, I start the car and the defroster. The fog dissipates to reveal my location, a rest stop off the I-95 in Rhode Island. I search my thoughts and try to piece together the events of the last 24 hours. Driving back toward Boston, I listen to "Nights with Alice Cooper." Its Hells version of Delilah; not because of the host and the subject matter, rather his soft spoken manner suggests that time has watered down and played out these classic songs. I reassure myself that whatever happens, Animal Crossing: New Leaf rests safe in my 3DS.

News Desk: Deathstroke Skipping Arkham Origins on Wii U

Not wanting to fall behind the competition in the race to see which publisher will be the last to realize that Wii U versions of multiplatform games will continue to fall behind their counterparts so long as they are treated as an afterthought, Warners Bros. has announced that the Deathstroke DLC pack that is currently being offered as a preorder bonus for Batman: Arkham Origins will not be available on Wii U. Actually, the publisher didn’t really say it specifically; it just announced the DLC would be available on every other platform while simultaneously releasing the box art with Wii U version not having the advertisement for it.

Rumor: Arkane working on Prey 2, forced by Bethesda

Prey 2 was announced long time ago, but since that day things went wrong with this product. If I not mistake, Bethesda published a press note and they stated that Prey 2 was still in development. Kotaku have more info about this drama.

Apparently, Bethesda hadn’t spoken with Human Head about Prey 2 for a year, until they told the team it would be cancelled. Meanwhile, Human Head worked on other projects. During that time, Obsidian was working on Prey 2, for at least a few months.
