Nintendo considering free-to-play, subscription-based games for Wii U and 3DS

In an financial Q&A transcript released Tuesday, Nintendo president Saturo Iwata took questions described some possibilities for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS as the company looks to expand its digital offerings.

Nintendo has made great strides with selling full retail games digitally for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U through both consoles’ respective eShops. However, Iwata says that releasing its retail offerings as downloads is only the first step in expanding the company’s digital business.
